University of Texas Fashion Show: SPECTRUM
Each semester during the school year, we find some exceptional students from the University of Texas to work with us and to further their studies by gaining real world business experience. We love having this relationship with the university. At the end of the school year, their top fashion design students put on a big fashion show, highlighting their work from the year. If you live in Austin, we encourage you to go check it out the show on Thursday night.
This year’s annual fashion show, SPECTRUM, organized by students of The University of Texas at Austin (specifically members of the University Fashion Group) will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2014. It is the official kickoff event for Austin Fashion Week! The fashion show will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the Frank Erwin Center. Tickets are available at the box office and the event is free and open to the public.
“Spectrum,” a powerful and all-encompassing word, fits this year’s senior design students perfectly. By encompassing each individual’s work as a piece of the overall spectrum of collections, all the designs come to together in a fluid, powerful way that displays a new wave of technical and creative design skills.
The school stages a professional quality event. Brad Goreski of Bravo TV’s show “It’s a Brad Brad World” attended the 2012 show and tweeted to over 150,000 followers “Congratulations the UT Fashion Show was fabulous!” The 2013 show was also well-attended by Daniel Esquivel of 2013’s season of Project Runway and Cameron Silver of Bravo TV’s Dukes of Melrose.
Twenty six apparel design students will present over 120 original designs on the runway using a mix of textures and techniques. Designers for SPECTRUM have created cutting-edge performance designs that move beyond ordinary uses- they become safety garments, incorporate digital prints, programmable lights, performance fabrics, as well as other creative innovations.
In collaboration with the University Fashion Group, Fortress of Inca will have the honor of featuring three of our popular shoe styles on the runway: Alexandra Page Rosewood, Penelope Sol Black, and Lulu Dahlia Savannah. Senior design students Alex Kelly, Tilde Snyder, and Derly Gonzalez will showcase these styles in their active wear collection.
The event will be broadcast “Live” on the Longhorn Network, which airs through Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-Verse on the night of SPECTRUM. We’re so excited for the show and for the fact that our shoes will be on live national television!
