Feature Friday: Amour Vert
We enjoy highlighting one of many unique brands in our "Feature Friday" blog posts.
In 2009, while reading on a beach in Peru, Christoph Frehsee and Linda Balti first dreamed up Amour Vert after learning that the fashion industry was the second most polluting industry in the world. The duo wanted to reform the fashion industry to one that was more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Disappointed by the selection of sustainable clothing in the marketplace, Balti wanted to create a clothing line that was not only beautiful and sustainable, but also affordable. By 2011, after conducting thorough research and coming up with a plan for a company emphasizing local production and sustainable operation, Amour Vert was born.
Amour Vert means "green love" in French and perfectly captures the essence of the brand. The company is at the forefront of the eco-conscious fashion movement as a fashion brand for the 21st century consumer. Constantly working to reduce its environmental footprint, Amour Vert's products promise non-toxic dyes, fabric innovation, smart supply chain engineering and a commitment to zero-waste design practices. Fun fact: Amour Vert has developed custom fabrics, blending recycled polyester, wood fabrics, and organic cotton to create the company's signature look and feel of its products. Products are also manufactured in America, employing fair treatment or workers.
Amour Vert further increases its positive environmental impact with its "Buy a Tee Plant a T(r)ee" initiative in partnership with American Forests, a leader in protecting and restoring forests since 1875. With every purchase of an Amour Vert t-shirt, the company vows to plant a tree in North America. To get a better grasp of its impact, by 2016, the company will have planted more than 100,000 trees from California to Florida. That's the equivalent of 226 acres of forest or 166 football fields! The company has been featured in numerous publications and its collections are currently sold at its San Francisco retail store and at select retailers across the U.S. At Amour Vert, it's not just about looking good, it's about doing good.
